파이토치(PyTorch)는 2017년부터 현재까지 150,000개 이상의 프로젝트를 구축한 수천 명의 기여자와 함께 AI 커뮤니티 전체에서 가장 중요한 기본 플랫폼 중 하나로 인공지능(AI) 머신러닝 및 딥러닝 애플리케이션의 개발, 테스트 및 배포를 위한 가장 인기 있는 오픈 소스 플랫폼이다.

페이스북의 모기업 메타(Meta)의 CEO 마크 저커버그(Mark Zuckerberg)는 12일 현지시간 파이토치는 오픈 소스 소프트웨어의 공동 개발을 핵심 목표로 하는 비영리 기술 컨소시엄 ‘리눅스 재단(Linux Foundation)’의 소속으로 새로이 출범한 ‘파이토치 재단(PyTorch Foundation)’으로 전환할 것이라고 밝혔다.

새로운 파이토치 재단 이사회에는 Meta와 AMD, 아마존(Amazon), 구글(Google), 마이크로소프트(Microsoft), 엔비디아(Nvidia) 등의 대표로 구성되며, 시간이 지남에 따라 더 확장될 예정이다.

 

한편, 메타는 PyTorch는 오픈 소스, 공동체 우선의 철학을 가지고 설립되었으며, 그것은 이번 재단(보기)으로의 전환에도 변하지 않을 것이라고 밝혔다. 또한 ▷개방성 유지 ▷중립적 브랜드 유지 ▷공정성 유지 ▷강력한 기술적 정체성 구축 이라는 네 가지 원칙을 준수하기 위해 노력할 것이며, 그것의 우선 순위 중 하나는 PyTorch의 비즈니스와 기술 거버넌스 사이의 명확한 분리를 유지하는 것이 될 것이라고 밝혔다.

The PyTorch Foundation is a neutral home for the deep learning community to collaborate on the open source PyTorch framework and ecosystem. The PyTorch Foundation is supported by leading contributors to the PyTorch open source project. The Foundation leverages resources provided by members and contributors to enable community discussions and collaboration.

Community collaboration is critical for the framework’s evolution as well as the development of associated projects that support using PyTorch in production and at scale. As part of The Linux Foundation, the PyTorch community will also collaborate on training, local and regional events, open source developer tooling, academic research, and guides to help new users and contributors have a productive experience.

The Foundation’s mission is to drive adoption of AI and deep learning tooling by fostering and sustaining an ecosystem of open source, vendor-neutral projects with PyTorch.
